What Properties You Can Buy with 200,000 Euro in Europe
This article is in partnership with Day Translations.
This is just a summary of what 200,000 euro could buy you when you search for an apartment in Europe. Here is a selection of major European cities and the type of properties you are likely to find in real estate listings. To come up with this selection a number of online estate agents’ listings were looked at in January 2025.
Berlin, Germany
In Berlin a budget of 200,000 euro will only afford you to buy a modest apartment.
An apartment in the region of 200,000 will have only one bedroom and a total area of about 30 square meters, which is just a big bigger than a studio flat. For example, one flat for sale had the fridge in the living room because the kitchen was too tiny to fit it in.
Bucharest, Romania
With 200,000 euro you can buy an apartment with one bedroom or up to four bedroom that is finished to a high standard and that is ready to move into. The total area for available apartments at the allocated budget is about 100 square meters. At this price properties in Bucharest can include new builds but you could also find some properties that require some minor renovation.
Madrid, Spain
200,000 euro can buy you either a studio flat or a one bedroom flat in Madrid with a total area of about 50 square meters. At this price properties are ready to move into and don’t require extra work.
Some properties may be part of larger complexes that include the use of a communal swimming pool.
Rome, Italy
Because Rome is made up of different districts, 200,000 euro could buy you anything from a studio flat in a fairly central location to a three bedroom flat in the outskirts of town. On average, this budget will cover a two bedroom flat with a total area of about 60 square meters.
Sofia, Bulgaria
With 200,000 euro you could buy a two bedroom apartment in Sofia with a total area of about 100 to 120 square meters. At this price point apartments are quite central and have modern facilities, they don’t require renovations and are ready to move into. Some properties may even have access to their own private garden. Further out from the city centre you can find three bedroom apartments for the same price.
Valletta, Malta
The standard of available accommodation varies according to the area, with some properties still requiring building work while other being ready to move into. For the allocated 200,000 budget you won’t find many apartments as they tend to be more expensive than that, however, you could get a two bedroom flat with an area of up to 100 square meters. Most of the listed properties require modernising or finishing.
Zagreb, Croatia
There are not many properties available at 200,000 euro in Zagreb; there is a small selection of modern one and two bedroom apartments with a total area of about 50 to 80 square meters near the centre. Further out, you can even find small one bedroom houses with a garden finished to a high standard.
What Is the Best European Country To Buy Property?
There is no single answer to this question as there are many factors to consider when buying property in Europe. Some sources look primarily at properties for their rental yield, while others explore the amenities of individual locations based on the assumption that the buyer will also live in the property.
Forbes analysed 10 countries in Europe with the best potential for investing in a property, placing Monaco in the top spot for best returns.
