Day Awards 2024: Who Is Going To Win?

The Day Awards (partnership) are almost here: in one week, the linguistic community will celebrate International Translation Day on the 30th September 2024 and the annual Day Awards from Day Translations will take place online on YouTube.

Who Won Last Year?

The 2023 Day Awards had winners in external and internal categories: external categories included translated books, movies, TV series and video games, while internal categories celebrated the work of Day Translations staff members and recognising their excellence at work, from HR to marketing and more.

Day Translations also aims to highlight the advancements in technology tools that support the work of linguists worldwide as well as the diversity of the linguist community.

Here is a brief summary of who won the Day Awards last year.

Slack won in the enterprise tools category, Legends of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom won in the video game category, Sea of Tranquillity won in the book category and Everything, Everywhere All at Once won in the non-English translated content.

Who Will Win This Year?

The external categories have expanded this year to include movies. It’s difficult to predict which movie will win as all the shortlisted titles have proved to be very popular with the general public, attracting positive reviews.

Looking at online scores for the shortlisted movies that have been translated into other languages, Despicable Me 4 received a score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes; Deadpool and Wolverine got a 94% score; Inside Out 2 got a 95% score and Parallel a 73% score.

This year also saw the introduction of a new category: the best translator and interpreter category. Anyone could cast a vote for their winner, both within the linguistic community and in the general public.

This is a great way to acknowledge the work of many language professionals around the world whose commitment deserves to be noticed.

The Day Awards have been showing the company’s appreciation for its internal translators and interpreters across its global offices and the addition of external linguists is an innovative change that brings more inclusion.

Voting closed at the end of August 2024 and we will only find out who the winners are during the awards ceremony itself which will take place on YouTube on the Day Translations’ channel. The broadcast is scheduled for the 30th September 2024 at 3pm GMT.
